Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at CTDS

The Center for Translational Data Science (CTDS) actively promotes and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion in everyday activities, continuing projects, outreach activities, and the selection of new projects to pursue.  CTDS works to foster an environment in which individuals feel supported as they work on individual goals and contribute to our common goals, including advancing the mission of our center. The mission of CTDS is to develop the discipline of translational data science and to apply it to impactful problems in biology, medicine, health care, and the environment.

Therefore, we commit to the following:

  • Endeavoring to source, hire, retain and promote staff from underrepresented communities;

  • Consulting regularly with experts in human resources, diversity, and inclusion on hiring, recruitment, and other practices to foster and maintain an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging;

  • Cultivating future data science professionals through recruiting members of underrepresented communities for internship and/or training opportunities;

  • Providing space for and encouraging staff to engage internally and externally on DEI-related matters, including, but not limited to employee resource groups, volunteer speaking, and mentoring opportunities;

  • Prioritizing research projects that can help advance our DEI goals;

  • Using distributed online platforms to provide access to our Gen3 software and its open source community; and

  • Remaining open to feedback and criticism to revisit this strategy and our implementation of it.
